  1. Paraphrase Sentence(導入)- 1文
  2. Overview(概要)- 2-3文
  3. Detail 1(詳細)- 3-5文

  • The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 60 and over between 1950 and 2050 in three different countries.
  • Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
  • You should write at least 150 words.

解答例

The line graph compares the percentage of people aged 60 or more in three countries over a period of 100 years.

It is clear that the proportion of elderly people increases in each country between 1950 and 2050. Korea is expected to see the most dramatic changes in its elderly population.

In 1950, around 9% of Americans were aged 60 or over, compared to about 7% of Spanish people and 5% of Korean people. The proportions of elderly people in the USA and Spain rose gradually over the next 50 years, reaching just around 15% in 1990. By contrast, the figures for Korean remained below 5% until after the decade in 2000.

Looking into the future, a sudden increase in the percentage of elderly people is predicted for Korea, with a jump of over 15% in just 20 years from 2030 to 2050. By 2050, it is thought that around 22% of the Korean population will be 60 years old or more, while the figures for Spanish and the USA will be slightly lower, at about 20% and 18% respectively.(179words)

  • The table below gives data on consumer expenditure on different items in five different countries in 1998.
  • Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features.
  • You should write at least 150 words.

解答例

The table shows percentages of consumer spending for three categories of products and services in five countries in 1998.

It is clear that the largest proportion of consumer spending in each country went on food, drinks and tobacco. On the other hand, the leisure/education category has the lowest percentages in the table.

Out of the five countries, consumer spending on food, drinks and tobacco was noticeably higher in Turkey, at 32.14%, and UK, at nearly 29%. The proportion of spending on leisure and education was also highest in Turkey, at 4.35%, while expenditure on clothing and footwear was significantly higher in Japan, at 9%, than in any of the other countries.

It can be seen that Norway had the lowest percentages of national consumer expenditure for food/drinks/tobacco and for clothing/footwear, at nearly 16% and just over 5% respectively. Korea had slightly higher figures for these categories, but the lowest figure for leisure/education, at only 1.98%.

  • The diagram below shows nitrogen sources and concentration levels in the groundwater of a coastal city.
  • Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features.
  • You should write at least 150 words.

The labeled image illustrates both sources as well as concentration levels of nitrogen in the groundwater of a coastal city.

Overall, the main nitrogen sources are waste disposal in landfills, leaks from storage tanks, fertilisers and finally, more natural sources such as lightning and vegetation. Furthermore, the diagram also represents the concentration of nitrogen in groundwater due to the sources stated above, where landfill disposal is the greatest.

Nitrogen is oxidised by lightning and then undergoes a fixation process with vegetation. However, it is the denitrification process which causes nitrogen to be found in groundwater. In addition to this, nitrogen is absorbed by soil particles due to fertilisers and then it leaks, resulting in an increase in the concentration of nitrogen in groundwater. Moreover, further sources of nitrogen include that of industrial leaks and waste disposal in landfills.

When comparing all these sources, and the concentration of nitrogen in the underground, the ones that secrete significantly greater concentrations are that of industrial leaks and waste disposal in landfills. Finally, all of these nitrogen compounds are then directed towards the groundwater discharge zone and secreted to the ocean.

  • The maps show changes that took place in Leura in Australia over a 25 year period from 1980 to 2005.
  • Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
  • You should write at least 150 words.

解答例

The maps illustrates the developments which took place in the coastal town of Leura between 1980 and 2005.

Overall, a comparison of the two maps reveals a complete transformation from a largely rural to a mainly urban area.

In the Year 1980, the town was a much greener residential area with a large number of trees and individual houses, but during the next 25 years, the town saw a number of significant changes. The most noticeable is that all of the trees in the south of the River Alanah were chopped down, with all the houses along the railway line being demolished to make way for skyscrapers. Moreover, a new industrial zone with warehouses and factories sprang up around the school and airport.

In contrast, only a few trees in the north of the river remained. That wouldland was cleared and converted into golf course, a park, and car parting facilities. Further developments were the construction of a stadium next to the north-east corner of the lake and the extension of the railway line from the river running directly to the north. A Marina was also constructed at the mouth of the river.(195 words)
